Saturday 11th October – Bruce Parry & Ray Mears
The Centaur, Cheltenham Racecourse.
1.30 to 2.45pm £10. Bruce Parry talks about his epic nine month journey down the Amazon where he highlights the struggle between the rainforest and the growing demand for the resources that lie beneath the most biodiverse part of our planet.
3.45 to 5pm £10. Ray Mears reflects on his experiences in some of the most remote and beautiful places on Earth and urges us to look more closely at the vanishing world around us.
Monday 13th October – What's wrong with incineration?
A presentation to Cheltenham’s Recycling Champions meeting at Hesters Way Community Centre from 6pm. With a large incinerator proposed for Gloucester the meeting will be a chance to hear peoples’ concerns about the development. Representative from experienced local and national waste campaign groups will lead the debate. The evening will also be a chance to hear about the sterling work of the recycling champions. The organisers need to know how many are coming as they will be providing good veggie nosh so if you plan to attend please contact Richard.
Thursday 16th October – Food
Cheltenham Town Hall, 2 to 3pm, £6. A discussion about food production and how local and sustainable consumption fits in.
Friday 17th October – Jeffrey Sachs
Cheltenham Town Hall, 6.30 to 7.30pm, £7. Director of the Earth Institute and special advisor to the UN considers how truly sustainable development can be achieved. His 'Common Wealth : Economics for a Crowded Planet' explores ways to avert global disaster and create a fairer and safer world.
Saturday 25th October – Renewables Campaign, National Day of Action
Following on from the launch of the campaign at this year’s conference (12th-14th September) the day will see FoE groups throughout the country working to lobby the government to stay true to their commitments to introduce renewable power schemes in the UK on the grand scale needed.
Saturday 6h December – National Climate March, London
Thousands will gather for the annual march coinciding with the pivotal UN international climate talks in Poland. The event will be one of many happening in major cities throughout the world, calling on world leaders take the urgent and resolute action needed to prevent runaway climate change.
